Meet Dr. Robbie Vanevenhoven

Fairfax, Woodbridge & Alexandria Offices

As fate would have it, Dr. Vanevenhoven had her wisdom teeth removed at Fairfax Oral Surgery in 2008. 13 years later, she joined our family as a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she graduated with highest scholastic distinction and honors in nursing science. She then practiced as a critical care nurse in Chicago. Working in the trauma and surgical ICU, she cared for patients with extensive facial reconstruction, infections and trauma, which sparked her interest in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Dr. Vanevenhoven obtained her doctorate of dental surgery from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduating Magna Cum Laude. During this time, her fascination with oral surgery continued to grow. She held multiple leadership positions in dental school, including a national position as the Chair of Students, Residents and Fellows on the Board of ADEA. Her outstanding performance in oral surgery and anesthesia was recognized nationally by the American Dental Society of Anesthesia award for honors in pharmacology and anesthesia.

Dr. Vanevenhoven then went on to complete her surgical training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Weill Cornell in New York City.

Her training focused heavily on orthognathic surgery, craniofacial reconstruction, minimally invasive TMJ surgery, total joint replacement, and complex implant placement. While in residency, she mentored women interested in the surgical specialty through her involvement with the ROAAOMS Women in OMS. During her training, she once again found herself in the ICU, this time redeployed as a critical care resident in one of the COVID ICUs.

She is an active member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, American Dental Political Action Committee, Women in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and the Virginia Dental Association.

Dr. Vanevenhoven is happy to have returned home to Northern Virginia, where her mother teaches advanced calculus at Woodson High School. Outside of work, she enjoys cheering on the Washington Capitals, scuba diving, yoga, golfing, omakase and spending time with her nieces.
